Directors
Both individuals graduated from De La Salle College in 2004. During their education they played hockey, soccer, basketball and baseball, among other sports. As alumni, each has accomplishments that bring value to Del Active Sports Camp.
David Stratton, Co-Director
For the past two years, Dave has been an active member in the De La Salle community. Between volunteering and working as a supply teacher, he has had gained valuable experience working with the children at the school. He also has been the assistant coach for the Girls’ Varsity Basketball and Boys’ Varsity Hockey team during his time at De La Salle. Dave is currently enrolled in teachers college at Medaille College where he will be receiving his Masters of Science in Education.
Colin Campbell, Co-Director
As a Triathlete and sports enthusiast, volunteering with the Del Tri Club, he expresses an athletic ability that motivates and challenges those around him to excel. Colin is also a corporate volunteer at Evergreen, a national charity, where he focuses on corporate responsibility and sustainability. His love for the school has always kept him close. He looks forward to building the foundation for a camp that provides memorable experiences and valuable skill building.
Karolina Bialkowska, Camp Coordinator
Karolina has had years of experience with children including being a camp counselor for the City of Toronto’s school-aged summer program and lifeguarding the local wading pool at her community park. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, Karolina has been travelling for almost a year all over South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Now that she is back, she is looking forward to working with kids again, building solid leadership, teamwork, and sports foundations for future generations of Canadians. Welcome to Del Active!
Head Counsellors
Pauliina Beretta - Head of Track and Field
For the past three years, Pauliina has been a contributing member of the Queen's University Track & Field Team. Before Queen's, she ran on the De La Salle high school team for four years. She was named a member of the Track and Field Executive in 2009 and forthcoming 2010 year. She recently received a bronze medal at the OUA Championships in the 4x200m relay and finished fourth place nationally (CIS). Pauliina’s love for the sport is demonstrated in every event she runs and she is excited to share her passion for Track and Field with everyone.
Jason Kelly – Head of Hockey
Jason Kelly has attended De La Salle for the past four years, and now, as a graduating student, he aspires to help the community through Del Active Sports Camp. Jason has always been a major component of the Varsity Hockey team while representing the school as the Athletics’ Rep for the Student Council. This past year, Jason played games for the Peterborough Petes and aims to be there full time next season. Jason is fortunate to have been taught by many knowledgeable people and now plans on becoming a mentor himself; someone who can be looked up to by all campers.
Matthew Basset-Spiers - Head of Basketball
Matthew Bassett-Spiers played 4 years of varsity basketball at Brock University where he competed at the National Tournament twice. Since then Matthew has been heavily involved in the coaching and development of youth basketball in Toronto. He is involved in skill development clinics, camps as well as coaching in the Toronto District School Board where he is a teacher.
Robbie Volpentesta - Head of Soccer
Just graduating from De La Salle this year, Rob has been involved in soccer since the age of four, where he began by playing in a league with Toronto CS Azzurri. Playing at almost every level for his age, he knows the hard work and dedication it takes to win and has proved it with several championships. Rob has also played for the De La Salle soccer team all four years he has attended the school, winning the MVP for Senior Boys Soccer this past year. Attending Ryerson University next year at Ted Rogers School of Business Management, Rob will try to continue to play soccer. He is excited to have the opportunity to be part of the camp this summer and cannot wait to begin.
